Environment and Sustainability

At Ballari Institute of Technology and Management (BITM), we recognize the importance of water conservation as a critical component of our sustainability efforts. Here are some key initiatives we've implemented :

  • Rainwater Harvesting: We have established a rainwater harvesting system across our campus, which collects and stores rainwater for non-potable uses such as flushing toilets, watering plants, and cleaning surfaces. This not only reduces our reliance on municipal water supplies but also helps recharge groundwater levels.
  • Groundwater Recharge: Our bore wells are used to replenish groundwater through effective recharge techniques. This ensures that naturally filtered rainwater is stored underground, maintaining healthy aquifers.
  • Efficient Water Distribution Systems: Our campus features well-maintained water distribution networks with minimal leakages. Regular checks by our maintenance team ensure that all pipes and valves are in good condition to prevent unnecessary water loss.
  • Awareness Programs: We conduct regular awareness programs on water conservation among students, staff, and local communities to promote responsible water usage practices.
  • Use of Water-Efficient Appliances: All new installations include low-flow fixtures such as faucets and toilets to minimize per capita consumption without compromising hygiene standards.

By integrating these measures into our operations, BITM aims to reduce its environmental impact while fostering a culture of sustainability among its stakeholders.

At Ballari Institute of Technology and Management (BITM), we recognize that responsible energy management is crucial for minimizing our environmental impact and promoting a sustainable future. We are committed to reducing our energy consumption, improving energy efficiency, and exploring renewable energy sources. Here are some key aspects of our energy management strategy :

  • Energy-Efficient Infrastructure: We have invested in energy-efficient lighting systems, HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) systems, and other equipment to minimize energy waste. This includes using LED lighting throughout the campus and implementing smart building management systems to optimize energy usage.
  • Renewable Energy Initiatives: BITM is actively exploring and implementing renewable energy sources to reduce our reliance on fossil fuels. This may include solar power installations, wind energy assessments, and other renewable energy projects. We are committed to increasing the proportion of renewable energy in our overall energy mix.
  • Energy Audits and Monitoring: We conduct regular energy audits to identify areas where we can improve energy efficiency and reduce waste. These audits provide valuable data that informs our energy management strategies. We also monitor our energy consumption patterns closely to track our progress and identify any potential issues.
  • Energy Conservation Awareness Programs: We conduct regular awareness campaigns and educational programs to promote energy conservation among our students, faculty, and staff. These programs encourage responsible energy consumption habits both on and off campus.
  • Smart Building Management Systems: BITM utilizes smart building management systems to optimize energy usage based on occupancy, weather conditions, and other factors. These systems automatically adjust lighting, HVAC, and other systems to minimize energy consumption without compromising comfort or productivity.
  • Power Factor Correction: We implement power factor correction measures to improve the efficiency of our electrical systems and reduce energy losses.
  • Procurement Policies: Our procurement policies prioritize energy-efficient equipment and appliances, ensuring that we are making sustainable choices whenever we purchase new equipment.

Through these initiatives, BITM is committed to reducing its energy footprint and promoting a culture of energy conservation. We believe that responsible energy management is essential for creating a sustainable future for our institution and the wider community.

The Ballari Institute of Technology & Management (BITM), under the Tungabhadra Education Health & Rural Development Trust, has established an Energy Policy for the academic years 2021-2022 and 2022-2023. This policy, drafted by Greenvio Solutions, aims to improve power usage based on existing consumption patterns and strategic implementations. The policy addresses an electrical load of 10,81,895 kWh, focusing on replacing non-energy-efficient lights and conventional ceiling fans with energy-efficient alternatives to move towards a 100% energy-efficient appliance premise. It also seeks to reduce air conditioning loads and promote natural ventilation.

Objectives include increasing the use of alternate energy sources like solar streetlights and conducting stakeholder awareness programs. The policy implementation involves documenting the use of alternate energy sources to achieve a Net Zero or Net Positive Campus and utilizing sensor appliances to reduce mandatory energy consumption. This policy references the AICTE Environment Policy 2020 and provides a framework for BITM to enhance its energy efficiency and sustainability practices.
