The IEEE Student Branch of BITM actively participated in a two-week Student Design Challenge Workshop held on 10th May 2025 at MathWorks, Bangalore, organized in collaboration with the MTTS Society and hosted by the IEEE AP/MTT-S Bangalore Joint Chapter. This industry-oriented program provided students with hands-on exposure to solving real-world engineering problems using MATLAB and Simulink.
A total of fifteen students from BITM were selected to participate, where they worked collaboratively in teams to design, simulate, and optimize wireless systems. The workshop included an engaging hands-on session led by Mr. Praful Pai from MathWorks, focusing on key areas such as antenna design, beamforming techniques, and system performance optimization. Additionally, an expert talk by Dr. Ashutosh Kedar offered valuable insights into RF and microwave antennas, particularly from a phased array perspective, highlighting real-world defense applications.
The learning experience extended beyond the workshop with a follow-up IEEE Distinguished Lecture event at RV College of Engineering on 1st June 2025. This session featured eminent IEEE fellows and included the announcement of competition results. A proud moment for BITM was when the METANOVA team secured second place in the design challenge.
Overall, the workshop successfully bridged theoretical knowledge with practical application, enhancing students’ technical skills and industry readiness.
