What is National Board of Accreditation (NBA)?
Accreditation is a process of quality assurance, whereby a programme in an AICTE approved institution is critically appraised to verify that the Institution or the programme meets the criteria and guidelines prescribed by NBA. Further, accreditation provides quality assurance that the academic aims and objectives of the institution are known to be honestly pursued and effectively achieved by the resources currently available, and that the institution has demonstrated capabilities to ensure effectiveness of the educational programme(s), over the validity period of accreditation.

What is WASHINGTON ACCORD?
The Washington Accord, signed in 1989, is an international agreement among bodies responsible for Accrediting Engineering Degree Programs. The signatories are USA, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, UK, Ireland. Later the other signatories are Hong Kong, South Africa, Japan, Singapore, Taiwan, Korea.
India got the provisional membership in the year 2007.
“It recognizes the substantial equivalency of programs accredited by those bodies and recommends that graduates of programs accredited by any of the signatory bodies be recognized by the other bodies as having met the academic requirements for entry to the practice of engineering”.
- International Recognition of Qualifications, i.e., the Degree would be equivalent to degrees of college from USA, UK, etc.,
- International Mobility of Learners & Graduates
- Recognition by Industries & hence placements
How different is NBA in lieu with Washington accord with Old NBA?
The old NBA emphasizes more on the capacity based, but the new NBA in lieu with Washington Accord focuses more on the outcome based education.
